Clinical Information
This culture test provides many uses that may or may not be related to clinical treatment of a patient. Specimens may originate from either inanimate sites or anatomic site sources. Reasons for culturing may include confirmation of the sterility of a product (which may or may not be injected into a patient), documentation of aseptic technique, detection of contamination, isolation of organisms causing procedurally-related infections, and isolation of bacteria from environmental sources for inclusion in ruling in or out transmission modes of suspected nosocomial infections.
Reference Values
No growth or report of type of microbial growth appropriate to specimen type
Cautions
Bacteria or other microorganisms may be present for which the media tested may not be capable of supporting and detecting growth.
Day(s) Performed
