Necessary Information
24-Hour volume (in milliliters) is required.
Specimen Required
Patient Preparation: It is recommended to ask all patients who may be indicated for this test about biotin supplementation. Patients should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to specimen collection.
Collection Container/Tube: Clean, plastic 24-hour urine collection container.
Submission Container/Tube: Plastic urine container
Specimen Volume: 10 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Instruct the patient to void at 8 a.m. and discard the specimen.
2. Collect all urine including the final specimen voided at the end of the 24-hour collection period (ie, 8 a.m. the next morning) in a 24-hour urine collection container. pH should be between 4 and 7.
3. Refrigerate specimen during the 24-hour collection.
4. Aliquot and send 10 mL urine in a plastic urine container frozen.
5. 24-Hour collection volume is required.
